Gary qualified with CIMA in 1996 having initiated a management accounting function at the IoD (Institute of Directors) where membership subs, training course fees and advertising revenues were the principal revenue streams.

He left the IoD to start up Caspian Publishing Ltd. Caspian publish b2b magazines, principally Real Business, as well as contract publishing and event management.

Caspian's revenues were £10m at the time of his exit as a shareholder.
